Charlie Wright as a young WW1 officer
Charlie Wright as a young WW1 officer
He was Brian's father's cousin. His family had a carrier's business in Liverpool. Charles was the oldest child and only son. We have photographs of him as a boy at school (possibly Liverpool College), another photo of him as a more mature young man and this photograph of him as a young officer. Brian's father said that Charlie died during WW1. After this his father lost enthusiasm for his carrier business. We have searched for Charlie's records but been unable to pinpoint him until now. His cap badge looks like one for the Cheshire Regiment and we found a record of a Lieutenant C Wright's death on the Soissons memorial. It seems to indicate he had a MC.
P.S. On Remembrance Day 2010 I have found evidence that this is the correct C Wright.I found the Probate record for Charles, naming his father, also Charles, who was a grain forwarding agent. This fits very closely to our details about Charlie's family and business in Liverpool.

Claude Wylie
"Great grandfather Wylie" This is the caption written on the photo found in possession of Sid Cowen (or maybe it had been Nellie Ferguson Cowen's). We thought at first that it showed Allan Wylie, Claude's son and grandfather to Sid and Nellie, but Allan died in 1872 at age of 39. This man seems older.
