'Faidherbe' plaque, Mission to Seamen in Cape Town.

Questions were asked in the House of Commons about the S.S. Faidherbe tragedy in which Cyril Calvey died. This awakened a memory, for cousin Frank Whittaker, of when his mother told him about the death of Cyril Calvey. She said that Auntie Polly had told her that a plaque had been placed in a Mission to Seamen in Cape Town commemorating the loss of the vessel.

Frank has been in touch with the Mission to Seamen in Cape Town and has received four photographs of the plaque.

The quote is from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson called Crossing the Bar. The quote is "Twilight and evening bell, and after that the dark! and may there be no sadness of farewell, when I embark."
