| Map of Liverpool 1847 This was one of the 60 inch maps compiled by the Ordnance Survey as training maps - I think there are only 3 British cities for whom they produced maps of such a size. The map was revised in 1864 although the revision was patchy. It shows open fields, mostly brick fields, although they could well have been built over by 1860 with brick-built houses so making Francis' shop more viable.
Notice the Rotunda Spirit Vaults (pub!) later absorbed into the theatre. |
